Dún Briste
Dún Briste stands picturesquely on a sloping site near Ballycastle village in Mayo, The Republic of Ireland. Downpatrick Head and has strong links with Saint Patrick. It is claimed that when Saint Patrick arrived in Ireland in 432, strong currents swept his boat through the Strangford Lough tidal narrows and he landed where the Slaney River flows into the lough. Folklore says St. Patrick founded a church on Downpatrick Head, and the ruins of a later built church now mark the location. A statue was erected in 1912 but later replaced in the 1980s. Dún Briste is one of visiting points on the Wild Atlantic Way in Mayo
